BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Manteca, Calif., teenager Jacob Gomes has signed with Joiner Race Cars for a part-time effort in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West in 2012, with sponsorship from Sunny Valley Smoked Meats and Dell’Osso Farms.
The 18-year-old is the first of several drivers who will be driving in JRC’s new NASCAR K&N Pro Series program this year.
In his only series start in 2011, Gomes won the pole and finished sixth at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif., in October. He won three races, meanwhile, in his 2011 Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series campaign to finish second in those standings.
Gomes made two NASCAR K&N Pro Series West starts in 2010. In 2009, he was the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Jostens National Rookie of the Year.
Gomes’ limited NASCAR K&N program will see him hit Iowa Speedway, All American Speedway, Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway, and The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway - along with a trip to Phoenix International Raceway in November in a combination of JRC and family-owned equipment.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity,” Gomes said. “I want to show what JRC is capable of. The big picture is to do well in the West so you can go somewhere in racing. Working with Junior is going to be great because he lives for racing and he’s just so pumped up about it.”
The move into the NASCAR K&N Pro Series builds off of the success Junior Joiner experienced in 2011 when JRC led the preparation of the pole-winning car for the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown with driver Derek Thorn.
“We are proud to have Jacob as our newest team driver in 2012,” said Joiner, JRC co-owner. “This young man showed tremendous ability in the 2011 SRL series racing against our team of drivers. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to add Jacob to our 2012 driver’s roster and we look forward to working with Jacob, his father Paul, and his team of Ron Dell’Osso and gang in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series.”
JRC intends to field multiple cars in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West with seats still available.
