Solomito Repeats At Riverhead

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. -- Six races into the 2017 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season, and Timmy Solomito is looking every bit the driver to beat for the championship.

After his breakout four-win campaign in 2016, Solomito has had an even better encore. 

Saturday, the Islip, New York, driver returned to his home track of Riverhead Raceway and picked up his third win of the season. He held off David Sapienza on an overtime finish to take the Buzz Chew Chevrolet-Cadillac 200.

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Timmy Solomito has an early edge in his bid to repeat as winner of the Buzz Chew Chevrolet-Cadillac 200 at Riverhead Raceway.

Solomito, of Islip, New York, posted a quick lap of 12.056 seconds (74.652 seconds) in qualifying Saturday at the Long Island bullring for his fifth career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Coors Light Pole Award.

The season points leader, Solomito earned his first career pole at the venerable quarter-mile in 2013.

PRACTICE: Preece Leads At Riverhead

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Ryan Preece has set the early pace in search of a fifth career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory at Riverhead Raceway.

Preece, of Berlin, Connecticut, turned a fast lap of 12.055 seconds (74.658 mph) around the Long Island quarter mile to lead the lone practice session in advance of tonight’s Buzz Chew Chevrolet-Cadillac 200.

A winner last time out at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, Preece is tied for the active lead in wins at Riverhead with four.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- As Justin Bonsignore continues the search for his first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship this season, Saturday's Buzz Chew Chevrolet-Cadillac 200 at Riverhead Raceway has been circled on the calendar as the one track where he is one of the clear favorites to visit Victory Lane. Bonsignore has finished inside the top five in nine of his 12 career series starts at the quarter-mile, including winning four times and sweeping both races at the track back in 2015.

FRIDAY FEATURE: Preece Returns To Roots

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Ryan Preece's homecoming has been all he could ask for and more. And he owes it all to family.

When the Berlin, Connecticut, driver originally decided he was coming back to the Northeast in the offseason and returning to his modified roots, he needed a job. When he spoke with car owner Eddie Partridge, who Preece had driven for part-time in 2016 while pursuing a full-time schedule on the NASCAR XFINITY Series, the combination decided that Preece would be working on his modifieds full-time and maintaining them out of his own house.

Preece Rockets To Thompson Victory

THOMPSON, Conn. -- Ryan Preece's pit stop strategy pushed him back in the field. But the Berlin, Connecticut, driver wasted no time in driving to the front en route to Wednesday night's NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory in the Thompson 125 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.

The win was the second of the season for Preece and 17th of his career.

THOMPSON, Conn. -- Behind the wheel of the Bardahl No. 7 Chevrolet for car owner Tommy Baldwin, Donny Lia captured his 22nd career Coors Light Pole Award at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Wednesday night. Lia posted a fast time of 18.643 seconds during the group qualifying session, enough to hand him his fifth career pole on the 0.625-mile high-banks.
