Eleven members of the 2017 NASCAR Drive for Diversity Pit Crew Development Program attended the MENCS Bank of America 500 race Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway for a chance to engage with Drive for Diversity alumni while getting a first-person view of action on pit road.
Brehanna Daniels, a 2016 participant, met with the current class at the Charlotte race just weeks after teaming with fellow 2016 class member Breanna O’Leary for the UNOH 175 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway to pit for Jordan Anderson in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Daniels, who served as the front-tire changer at New Hampshire, made history this summer at Dover International Speedway when she became the first African-American female to pit a vehicle in a national NASCAR series race. O’Leary, who changed rear tires during the race, also had the opportunity to pit during the Las Vegas 350 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Both Daniels and O’Leary continue to break barriers for women in the motorsports industry.
The NASCAR Drive for Diversity Pit Crew Development Program also had an imprint in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with four alumni -- Will Johnson, Johnathan Wilard, Ricky Rozier, and Curtis Wall – serving as members of Tyler Reddick’s winning pit crew team when he was victorious in the NXS VISITMYRTLEBEACH.COM 300 race at Kentucky Speedway.
