News & Notes: King George Celebrates First NASCAR Title

The year’s NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion can finally celebrate in style. After moving South with his family many years ago, West Babylon, N.Y.-native George Brunnhoelzl III capped an unbelievable season in style, winning his first NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship.

Brunnhoelzl accomplished something his father or grandfather had not been able to do throughout their modified driving careers — win a NASCAR touring title.

ASHEBORO, N.C. -- George Brunnhoelzl III capped off his first NASCAR championship a victory in the Fall Classic 150 at Caraway Speedway, the final race of the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour season.

Brunnhoelzl needed to only start the finale in his No. 28 OvalSpeed/Fibrwrap/PT Ford to clinch the championship. He assured himself of that by claiming his sixth Coors Light Pole Award of the season which gives him the overall award for the season winning the most poles.. He went on to claim his fifth win of the season and third at Caraway.

QUALIFYING: Brunnhoelzl Moves Closer To Title With 6th Pole

ASHEBORO, N.C. - George Brunnhoelzl III just has to start the season finale to clinch the 2009 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship. And he assured himself of that spot by winning his sixth Coors Light Pole Award Saturday evening for the Fall Classic 150.

The final race of the season is scheduled to go green at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Brunnhoelzl's fast lap of 16.004 seconds (102.349 mph) around the .455-mile was good for this third pole award of the year at Caraway.

PRACTICE: GB3 Leads Way

ASHEBORO, N.C. – George Brunnhoelzl III set fast time during practice Saturday afternoon for the evening’s running of the Fall Classic 150 at Caraway Speedway.  Brunnhoelzl who will clinch the 2009 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship when he takes the green flag for the season-ending race, finished the session with a time of 15.981 seconds (102.497 mph).

News & Notes: Myers To Attempt Double Duty This Weekend

NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour veteran Burt Myers (No. 1 Capital Bank Ford) is going to have a busy Saturday this weekend.

Myers will start his day at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Va., early in the day and finish it at Caraway Speedway. He will be at Martinsville making his first start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in the Martinsville 250. Myers was able to put together a last-minute deal and was fitted for his seat last Thursday, so now he knows one of his racing dreams will come true.

Fall Classic 150 Rescheduled

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 13, 2009) – After rain forced a postponement of the Fall Classic 150 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race originally scheduled for last Saturday at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C., a make-up date has been scheduled.

The Fall Classic 150 will now be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 8 p.m.

While the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will crown its 2009 champion at the rescheduled event as George Brunnhoelzl III, will just need to start the event to claim the title, there are still several more points battles to be decided in the top 10.

Rain Postpones Fall Classic 150

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 10, 2009) – Due to persistent rain showers and forecasts for more rain throughout the day, NASCAR officials have announced the Fall Classic 150 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race originally scheduled for tonight at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C. has been postponed.

An announcement concerning a make-up date will be made on Monday.The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will also crown its 2009 champion at the rescheduled event.

ALTAMAHAW, N.C. - George Brunnhoelzl III moved closer to the 2009 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship Friday night with his fourth win of the season in the Lightning Fast 150 at Ace Speedway.

Brunnhoelzl, who started the race second, took the lead from pole sitter Burt Myers on a Lap 26 restart. He held the lead until Myers was able to pass on a restart on lap 72 but he quickly resumed the top spot one lap later and clearly had the best car all night.

QUALIFYING: Myers Aces Record

ALTAMAHAW, N.C. - Burt Myers won the Coors Light Pole Award in qualifying for Friday night's Lightning Fast 150 at Ace Speedway with a record lap. Myers broke the old track record by almost two-tenths of a second to win his fourth pole of the season and the 21st of his career.

Points leader George Brunnhoelzl III qualified second with a time of 14.606, also eclipsing the old track record. Tim Brown had set the qualifying record of 14.710 seconds (97.893 mph) on Sept. 3, 2007.
