NOTEBOOK: Euro-Racecar Right At Home

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the first time, Jerome Galpin was here to celebrate a NASCAR season and not simply look on as a casual observer of the festivities.

Galpin, the founder of the Euro-Racecar NASCAR Touring Series, was joined at the NASCAR Grand Champions Touring Awards in the Grand Ballroom at the Westin Hotel by inaugural series champion Ander Vilarino of Spain. Vilarino was one of seven NASCAR touring series champions honored at the morning awards ceremony.

CHAMPION PROFILE: Vilarino Makes History

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Winning championships is nothing new to Ander Vilarino, but sealing the 2012 Euro-Racecar NASCAR Touring Series crown represents a special achievement for the 32-year-old, as he is still quite new to stock-car racing.

As a stock-car rookie in 2011, Vilarino finished third in the standings with a pair of wins, six top fives and three pole positions which set the table for a title run in 2012. On Jan. 11, though, the stakes got a little higher.

CHAMPION CREW CHIEF: Tony Pereira

Much of the success for the No. 2 TFT-Banco Santander Chevrolet team during the 2012 season belongs to  crew chief Tony Pereira. As well as leading the TFT squad to the Euro-Racecar NASCAR Touring Series title, the 40-year-old Gers, France native forged a bond with driver Ander Vilarino that contributed greatly to their triumph.

When talking about his driver, the title-winning crew chief does so from the heart.

Locked In Spots Finalized for Inaugural UNOH Battle At The Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Eight NASCAR champions head a list of drivers that have earned locked-in spots in the field fields at the inaugural UNOH Battle At The Beach on Feb. 18-19 at Daytona International Speedway.

The UNOH Battle At The Beach features two nights of racing with NASCAR K&N Pro Series, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tours and the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series on the .4-mile oval on the backstretch.

Most Popular Driver Balloting Remains Open

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – While the championship battles have been settled in four of the seven NASCAR regional touring series, the winner for each of the series’ Most Popular Driver Award are still very much up for grabs.

Most Popular Driver voting has already surpassed last year’s record level – with more than 140,000 votes cast online at NASCAR.com since balloting opened in August.

LE MANS, France – Ander Vilarino wrote a new page in the history books Sunday by becoming the inaugural EURO-RACECAR NASCAR Touring Series champion. The Spaniard has dominated the 2012 season with six wins, eight top-fives and 11 top-10 finishes, as well as three pole positions for sprint races and two in endurance events.

Thiévin reduces championship gap

Euro-Racecar Series Release

LE MANS, France -- The Euro-Racecar Touring Series Elite Division sprint race saw a debut victory for Gaël Castelli but, with the newcomer not eligible for points, Romain Thievin took a maximum score to reduce the deficit to NASCAR championship leader Ander Vilarino. The Spaniard took seventh in a race played out on a wet Le Mans Bugatti circuit, building the suspense ahead of this afternoon’s final reckoning.
