DOVER, Del. – Harrison Burton made a statement in the sole NASCAR K&N Pro Series East practice session on Friday at Dover International Speedway setting the fastest lap for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation 125 presented by Carl Deputy & Son Builders.
The NASCAR Next driver, who came to Dover with plenty of confidence as he battles for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship with Todd Gilliland, recorded a 153.741 mph lap during the one hour and 20 minute session.
The 16-year-old from Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, was expecting to have a good run after he scored a top-10 finish at the Monster Mile earlier this year in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.
Sheldon Creed was second fastest with a 153.400 mph lap while Ronnie Bassett, Jr., who won the season opener at Florida's New Smyrna Speedway, was third quickest with his younger brother Dillon Bassett rounded out the top four.
Todd Gilliland, who enters tonight’s race at Dover with an eight point lead over Burton, was fifth fastest in practice with a 152.465 mph lap.
Ruben Garcia Jr., Jay Beasley, Riley Herbst, Chase Cabre and Collin Cabre completed the top 10.
Qualifying for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation 125 will commence at 1 p.m. ET with the green flag scheduled for 5 p.m. ET.
