BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Harrison Burton may not have had the 2016 season he was looking for, but his production earned him a small bonus Friday when weather washed out qualifying at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Burton, who finished seventh in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship points last year, will start on the pole for today's Zombie Auto 125 after the lineup was set according to the rule book.
This is the third and final race of the 2017 season for the East in which the lineup is based on 2016 results. The Zombie AUto 125 is scheduled for 4 p.m., weather permitting.
Burton, a member of the NASCAR Next class, was third fastest in Friday's only practice session in his No. 12 Dex Imaging Toyota.
Sheldon Creed, driving the No. 40 A.M. Ortega/United Rentals Toyota, will start second. Creed was the top Sunoco Rookie of the Year candidate in practice in fourth.
Vinnie Miller, Ryan Truex and Hunter Baize round up the top five starters. Collin Cabre will start sixth, followed by Tyler Dippel, Ruben Garcia Jr., Chase Cabre and Jay Beasley.
Because of the weather, there are a number of notable drivers who will take the green flag in the back half of the field.
Garcia, a NASCAR Next alum, was fastest in the practice session. Jesse Little, also a NASCAR Next alum, will start 26th while NASCAR K&N Pro Series West points leader and current NASCAR Next member Todd Gilliland, who is running both East and West full-time this season, will start 21st alongside rookie teammate Chase Purdy.
Former Bristol winner Eddie MacDonald starts 18th and NASCAR Next driver Julie Landauer starts 20th.
