Harris Wins 19th, Ties Morris For Lead

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Brian Harris notched his 19th win of the season Sunday night and moved back into a tie for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national points lead.

Harris won the 35-lap Late Model season finale at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway, edging Andy Eckrich for the victory.

The win allowed Harris to improve his points total to 946, and move into a tie with Philip Morris of Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va.

The deadline for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series is Sunday, Sept. 14. All points totals are unofficial pending review by NASCAR Membership & Points, and complete updated standings will be released Tuesday.

Points total is based on a driver's top 18 finishes for the year at any NASCAR-sanctioned track. A driver receives two points for every car they beat - up to 25 cars - and there is a five-point bonus for wins.

Morris won twice Saturday night to pass Harris for the lead. Sunday’s win allowed Harris to drop a 46-point, third-place performance from Dubuque in August. Twenty-five cars started the feature, unofficially giving Harris 55 points for the win and allowing him to gain nine points.

Harris started Sunday’s race on the .375-mile, high banked, clay track in fourth and took the lead from Eckrich on the second lap. The two battled for the lead for nearly 20 laps before Harris pulled away for the victory. Eckrich, who entered the weekend ranked sixth in the nation, finished second to wrap up the Dubuque track title.

There is one more race at the three Iowa race tracks that Harris competes on remaining: Wednesday at Farley Speedway on the first night of the 31st Yankee Dirt Track Classic on the .500-mile high banked clay oval. Morris said Saturday night he is considering his options of where to run his asphalt Late Model on the final weekend.

Harris holds the tiebreaker, by virtue of more wins (19-12). Harris' worst finish of his best 18 is currently a 48-point finish, while Morris' worst is a 46.
