Located in Southern Erie County, Holland International Speedway has been a focal point of short track auto racing for almost three decades under the same management. It is a popular entertainment center featuring a family atmosphere with clean modern facilities operated by professional management with high standards. NASCAR demands the finest in racing facilities. Holland Speedway has earned the reputation of being one of the finest NASCAR short tracks due to its facilities. These facilities provide an excellent atmosphere for the enjoyment of auto racing.
OUR HISTORY
The Speedway was constructed in 1960. Originally a 1/3 mile oval with a seating capacity of 1,200 it was expanded to 3/8 mile in 1964. In 1968, the Speedway was converted to asphalt. Over a period of time, the seating capacity was expanded to the current capacity for over 7,000 race fans and competitors. The principals in the operation of the Speedway include Attorney Ronald Bennett who serves as President, and his son Timothy, who serves as promoter and race director. Co-owner Richard Knox, a contractor, serves as head of track management while businessman Gordon Becker handles the full time position of General Manager. All three principals have been with the Speedway since its inception.
RACE PROGRAM
Racing activities are sanctioned by NASCAR, the nation's premier racing body. With over 2,000 short tracks throughout the United States, less than 100 have qualified to carry the NASCAR banner. Formed in 1948, NASCAR has been the leader of race development, competition and safety. NASCAR establishes stringent requirements of safety and insurance. The Speedway is a member of the Northeast Region Division of the Winston Racing Series. The drivers at Holland compete in point standings against other short track drivers throughout the Northeast. The National Champion is determined from 10 regional champions based upon the best performance record in the region. Over $ 1,000,000 in regional point monies are paid to the top 10 competitors in each region at the annual national banquet held in Nashville, Tennessee, each November.
BUSCH GARDEN
A large tent with 2,400 square feet of service area is equipped with closed circuit TV and is readily accessible to both the concession and the Amusement Park areas. It is a popular area for displaying sponsor products and conducting company picnics.
WINSTON PADDOCK CLUB
This facility includes a 700 seat grandstand featuring enlarged seating, private refreshment facilities including a barbecue pit, seating area, landscaped paddock and closed circuit TV. The facility has been constructed for use by large private groups or businesses with picnic and party-packages available.
LABATT SKYTOWER
This unparalleled facility consists of 5 glass enclosed suites featuring tiered arm chaired seating, fully carpeted, wet bar, individual control volume and air-conditioned comfort. The suites provide an excellent atmosphere for business entertaining.
OTHER AMENITIES
GRANDSTANDS
All 7,000 seats have been well constructed to provide an unobstructed view of all racing activity on the 3/8's mile oval. Included is a chair back reserved section of 500 seats.
AMUSEMENT PARK
The Speedway has long catered to family entertainment. To enhance this objective, an amusement park was added consisting of a Ferris wheel, small roller coaster, scrambler and kid's ride. The Park enhances group outings with its emphasis on promoting family entertainment
CONCESSION AREA
The concession buildings have been designed to provide easy access for race fans. Items included on the concession menu include hot dogs, soft drinks, beer, milk, ice cream nachos, pizza, dough, french fries, popcorn and other assorted items. WINSTON SCOREBOARD
A large ultra modern scoreboard provides constant posting of the first 4 positions in each event and the number of laps completed.
BUSCH TOWER
This pit area platform provides a command center for officials to monitor the races in addition to the starter and assistant starter's , positions. It is also utilized by the press and videotaping specialists to get a bird's-eye view of the racing action.
CLOSED CIRCUIT TV
A 4 camera 4 system complete with a producer and commentary provides closed circuit television in many areas. Especially popular playback capability provides race fans with an opportunity to relive action. Video-tapes are complete with graphics and audio featuring sponsors, race interviews and action.
WINSTON GAZEBO
This unique structure houses the Speedway Store offering a full line of quality race clothing and drivers pictures. From the Gazebo, the Speedway offers its 60 page weekly race program with articles and pictures of winning race drivers.
