AGUASCALIENTES, Ags, México – For the second time, Germán Quiroga has kicked off the NASCAR Mexico Series season with a victory. This time the No. 2 FedEx driver is hoping the victory will lead to a championship run.

Quiroga, who has finished runner-up in points each of the last two seasons, captured the Pennzoil 200 Sunday in the first race at the Nuevo Autódromo de Aguascalientes before 22,000 fans. The brand new .446 tri-oval track opened this season.

It is the second time Quiroga has opened the season in Victory Lane. He also accomplished the feat in 2006. And his ninth career victory moved him into a tie with Carlos Pardo for third on the all-time list.

Rubén Pardo (No. 12 Mikels) finished second, followed by Carlos Peralta (No. 7 Intra Teja-2b Racing). Freddy Tame and Irwin Vences rounded out the top five. Rubén Rovelo, who won the pole position in qualifying Saturday, finished 17th, while defending series champion Antonio Pérez also encountered difficulties and finished 25th.

The race also marked the first time Toyota participated in the NASCAR Mexico Series.
