MADERA, Calif. – Eric Holmes overcame a fierce battle to win the NAPA Auto Parts/Toyota 150 presented by Exclusive Energy Drink at Madera (Calif.) Speedway on Saturday and register his second win of the early season in the NASCAR Camping World Series West.
A series of restarts kept fans on the edge of their seats in the closing laps as Holmes, David Mayhew and Mike David waged war against each other through a series of late-race restarts. Contact between the trio in those closing laps left more than a few crumpled fenders and bruised feelings.
Holmes, who had slipped to third, battled his way back to the lead with 10 laps remaining and then held off Mayhew on a restart three laps from the finish to pull out the victory, his eighth career series win.
Mayhew held on for second, with David close behind. Series rookie Paulie Harraka steered his battle-damaged entry to a fourth-place finish, followed by Greg Pursley in fifth. Completing the top 10 were Brett Thompson, Jason Bowles, Moses Smith, Johnathan Hale and Wes Banks.
Holmes, who led the championship standings coming into the event, added to his point lead with the win
