DELAWARE, Ont. – In the first visit to Delaware Speedway for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, Mark Dilley posted the fastest qualifying time. He navigated the historic half-mile oval in 19.133 seconds for an average lap speed of 94.078 mph.
Dilley (No. 9 Dodge/Leland Industries Dodge), racing out of Barrie, Ont., earned his first pole since taking the honors at Kawartha Speedway in the 2007 season finale. It is his third series career pole. He also won at his home track of Barrie Speedway in July 2007.
“The car has felt good all day, but there are a lot of good cars here. The Dodges were particularly strong,” said Dilley.
Starting on the outside pole is defending series champion Scott Steckly (No. 22 Canadian Tire/Tow Truck in a Box Dodge), who timed in at 19.157 seconds (93.960 mph). Steckly started from the pole position two weeks ago in the season opener at Autodrome St. Eustache.
The second row consists of DJ Kennington (No. 17 Castrol/Mahindra Tractor Dodge), who posted a time of 19.189 seconds (93.804 mph) and the time of 19.190 seconds (93.799 mph) posted by Don Thomson Jr. (No. 4 Home Hardware Chevrolet).
The Dodges of Jason Hathaway (No. 3 Snap-on Tools/Vortex Brake Pads Dodge) and Ron Beauchamp Jr. (No. 60 Mopar/Mobil 1 Dodge) will start fifth and sixth, respectively.
Eight Dodges will start in the top 10. Only Thomson’s Chevy and the Ford of Kerry Micks (No. 02 Beyond Digital Imaging Ford) were able to break the Dodge stranglehold.
The Delaware 200 presented by Belfor Restoration Services is slated to get underway at 8:30 p.m. ET.
