LOUDON, N.H. – Eric Beers topped the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour speed charts Thursday in practice for the New England 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Beers (No. 46 Cape Cog Aggregates/J&R Pre-Cast Chevrolet) turned in a fast lap of 128.950 seconds in the 90-minute practice session. Beers will look to earn his 10th career Coors Light Pole Award later today in qualifying.
Donny Lia (No. 4 JoJo Energy Drink Dodge), a winner at New Hampshire in the June 2007 race, was second-fastest in practice with a quick lap of 128.824 mph. Todd Szegedy (No. 2 UNOH/Wisk/Snuggle Ford) came in third at 128.684 mph.
Rowan Pennink (No. 93 Monk Mechanics Hand Cleaner Chevrolet) and Ted Christopher (No. 36 Al-Lee Installations Chevrolet) tied for the fourth-fastest lap in practice at 128.628 mph.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman were eighth and 19th fastest, respectively. Kahne registered a fast lap of 127.919 mph while Newman’s quickest was 127.206.
Newman earned the Coors Light Pole Award for the previous NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at New Hampshire last September.
Qualifying for Saturday’s 100-lap race will commence today at 4:45 p.m.
