GUADALARAJA, Mexico – Homero Richards earned his first career win Sunday in the Goodyear 200 before a capacity crowd of more than 9,000 at Autódromo Internacional Bernardo Obregón.
Richards, making his 48th career start, had previously finished runner-up five times and had won the pole position seven times.
He held off pole sitter Germán Quiroga for the victory. Quiroga settled for second and extended his points lead over Ruben Pardo, who finished seventh, to 118 points.
Antonio Perez passed Jorge Arteaga late in the race for third, while Patrick Goeters rounded out the top five. Ruben Rovelo, Pardo, Rogelio Lopez, Irwin Vences and Carlos Peralta completed the top 10.
The race was slowed just five times for cautions.
