Patrick Goeters collected the win Sunday at Autódromo Miguel E. Abed. OCESA
PUEBLA, Mexico – Patrick Goeters became the eighth different winner in nine NASCAR Mexico Series races this season with his victory Sunday at the new permanent road course at Autódromo Miguel E. Abed.
It was Goeters first win since April 20, 2008 at Mexico City. In addition, his brother Jorge Goeters finished second at Puebla.
Rafael Martinez was third, followed by German Quiroga and Rogelio Lopez.
Quiroga, the points leader, started on the pole after rain washed out qualifying Saturday and led the first 13 laps. Patrick Goeters led from Lap 18 to 31, and then regained it on Lap 41 and led the final 10 laps on the 2,750 meter oval. Ruben Pardo, Jorge Goeters and Irwin Vences also led laps.
With five races remaining, Quiroga leads Homero Richards, who finished 30th, by 167 points and Pardo, who finished 10th, by 184.
The race was slowed six times for yellow flags. The 33-car starting field marked the biggest car count of the season.
The NASCAR Mexico Series will return to the track Sept. 20 at Monterrey.
On Sept. 16, the NASCAR Mexico Series drivers will compete in an exhibition soccer game against CF Monterrey at Estadio Tecnológico, with proceeds going to the trust for the family of Carlos Pardo. Pardo, the 2004 series champion, passed away following an accident earlier this season. A plaque in Pardo’s honor was unveiled prior to the Puebla event.
