DOVER, Del. – Fastest in Thursday practice translated to fastest in Friday qualifying as first-year Joe Gibbs Racing driver Matt DiBenedetto shattered the previous NASCAR Camping World Series East qualifying at Dover International Speedway in preparation for today’s Sunoco 150.

DiBenedetto, from Grass Valley, Calif., needed just one lap in time trials to turn in a fast lap of 23.201 seconds (155.166 mph), eclipsing the mark Sean Caisse set in 2006 at 23.563 (152.782).

The second and third-fastest qualifiers – Eddie MacDonald and Kevin Swindell – also eclipsed the previous track record. MacDonald was first out during time trials and laid down a fast lap of 23.479 seconds (153.329 mph) while Swindell’s quickest effort was 23.504 (153.165).

The rest of the top qualifiers for this evening’s Sunoco 150 were Brett Moffitt, Corey LaJoie, Ryan Truex, Alex Kennedy, Jonathan Smith, Matt Kobyluck and David Mayhew.

Green flag for the Sunoco 150, which will decide the 2009 NASCAR Camping World Series East champion, is set to take the green flag at 4:45 p.m.
