FRASERVILLE, Ont. – JR Fitzpatrick turned in the quickest time in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 practice for the Z-Line Designs 250 presented by the Dodge Dealers of Ontario and Coca-Cola at Kawartha Speedway by navigating the .375-mile oval in 17.818 seconds for an average lap speed of 75.766 mph.
Racing out of Cambridge, Ont., Fitzpatrick (No. 84 Schick Chevrolet) is competing in his first oval-track event of the season after running three of the four road courses on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule and several events for Kevin Harvick, Inc. in both the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Rookie driver Steven Mathews, who finished sixth in his series debut on Aug. 8 at Mosport Speedway, posted the second-fastest time at 17.835 seconds (75.694 mph). Ron Beauchamp Jr. was just behind at 17.905 seconds (75.398 mph).
Rounding out the top five was Don Thomson Jr. with a time of 17.907 (75.390 mph) and John Gaunt, who logged a time of 17.953 seconds (75.196 mph).
Time trials are scheduled for 5 p.m ET while the race is set to get underway at 7 p.m.
