Martínez Rolls To Opening Victory

Queretaro, Mexico – Rafael Martínez opened defense of his NASCAR Mexico championship with a season-opening victory at the New Queretaro Autodrome road course Sunday.

Martínez, who won the pole Saturday, drove his No. 18 Canel´s/Scotiabank/Tekmol  Ford to his 11th career victory. Patrick Goeters (No. 15 Citizen-FedEx Ford) was second, followed by Luis F. Montaño (No. 87 Seman Baker Dodge).

Homero Richards and Jorge Goeters were fourth and fifth, respectively. Irwin Vences was the top rookie in sixth.

Thirty-three cars, including eight rookies, started the season-opening race that marked the series’ fifth season and its second under the NASCAR banner.

The NASCAR Mexico Series returns to action April 20 at the Hermanos Rodriguez Autodrome in Mexico City April 20. The race is in conjunction with the NASCAR Nationwide Series event.
