Mike Gallegos scored his second consecutive top 10 in the NASCAR Camping World Series West on Saturday at Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, Tex. Gallegos finished ninth in the Texas Thunder 150.
“We’ve got some momentum now,” said Gallegos. “Rob [Dixon] and the guys work hard to give me a good car every week. We’re building a solid foundation with this RTD Motorsports team.”
Gallegos qualified 12th of 22 cars in his No. 34 RTD Motorsports/Drive for Diversity Chevrolet. He moved into the top 10 and was able to maintain his position despite having to line up in the outside row of a double-file restart late in the race.
Gallegos, of Wheat Ridge, Colo., will return to the track Sunday, May 18 when the Camping World Series West meets the Camping World Series East at Iowa Speedway in the U.S. Cellular 200.
DRIVE FOR DIVERSITY NOTES:
Drive for Diversity participants Kristin Bumbera and Lloyd Mack also competed in the Camping World Series West event at Thunderhill Raceway on Saturday. Bumbera finished 11th after starting the race 13th in her No. 40 TXI Maximizer Concrete Chevrolet. Mack finished 21st in his No. 33 Roadrunner Motorsports Ford after qualifying 19th.
Jesus Hernandez and Jonathan Smith made their 2008 debut in the Camping World Series East season opener at Greenville-Pickens Speedway. Hernandez finished 18th in his No. 11 DEI Chevrolet after sustaining some damage in an on-track incident. Smith finished 21st in the No. 21 Raintree Vacation/Aqua Pure Dodge after starting the race on a provision due to a blown engine during qualifying.
