THOMPSON, Conn. - Rookie Trevor Bayne followed up his best career finish by earning his first Coors Light Pole Award Saturday evening in qualifying for Saturday night's Pepsi Full Fendered Frenzy 100 at Thompson International Speedway.
Bayne's top lap of 20.357 seconds/110.527 mph in the No. 1 Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet Chevrolet, beat out second-year driver Marc Davis (No. 18 Slim Jim Toyota). Davis' posted a lap of 20.468/109.928. Bayne is coming off a runner-up finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Eddie MacDonald and Matt Kobyluck, winners of the last two NASCAR Camping World Series East races and past winners at Thompson, qualified third and fourth, respectively. Peyton Sellers qualified fifth.
Point leader Austin Dillon, also a rookie, qualified 11th. He enters the race with a 48-point lead over Kobyluck and a 76-point lead over both Bayne and Brian Ickler. Ickler qualified seventh.
