BRISTOL, Tenn. – Following his win last week in Connecticut, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver Justin Bonsignore stated he was looking forward to today’s Bush’s Beans 150 since his team has always had good speed at Bristol Motor Speedway. He’s backing that statement up.
Bonsignore, from Holtsville, New York, posted a fast lap of 14.925 seconds (128.563 mph) in Coors Light Pole qualifying to take home his fifth career Whelen Modified Tour pole, and second at the “World’s Fastest Half Mile.” He was also fast qualifier for the 2010 event.
The fast lap in time trials backed up his performance earlier in the afternoon when he also topped the practice speed chart.
Bonsignore will be joined on the front row for tonight’s feature by Burt Myers, who turned in a lap of 14.939 (128.442). As the highest-qualifying Whelen Southern Modified Tour driver, Myers earned the Coors Light Pole for that tour. It extended his southern tour career record total to 27.
Bobby Santos qualified third-fastest at 14.942 (128.417) while Ryan Preece finished fourth at 14.954 (128.313) and Donny Lia was fifth at 14.977 (128.116).
Matt Hirschman, Whelen Modified Tour points leader Doug Coby, two-time Bristol winner Ryan Newman, Eric Goodale and Woody Pitkat rounded out the top 10 qualifiers.
Whelen Southern Modified Tour points leader Andy Seuss qualified 14th.
The sixth annual Bush’s Beans 150 Whelen Modified-Whelen Southern Modified Tour combination race will take the green flag at 6:15 p.m.
