THOMPSON, Conn. – Justin Bonsignore is bidding to be the new king of Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.

Bonsignore, from Holtsville, New York, took home the checkered flag in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour’s first visit to the .625-mile oval this year, and in today’s return trip he showed early that he intends to stay up front. Bonsignore piloted the No. 51 Chevrolet to a fast lap of 18.750 seconds (120.00 mph) to lead the 25-car contingent in afternoon practice.

Bonsignore was followed on the speed chart by Donny Lia at 18.806 (119.643) and Bobby Santos at 18.815 (119.585). Todd Szegedy was fourth-fastest at 18.833 (119.471). That trio has 10 combined wins at Thompson in their careers.

Patrick Emerling, Eric Goodale, Matt Hirschman, Rowan Pennink, points leader Doug Coby and Woody Pitkat round out the top 10 in practice.

Coors Light Pole Award qualifying is slated for 7 p.m., and the Budweiser King of Beers 150 will go green at approximately 8:45 p.m.
