DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Deac McCaskill took last year off, sold his equipment and gave it a shot at being a crew chief when he realized it wasn’t where he belonged.
And things all fell into place for him to get back on track.
He was fortunate to be able to buy back his old equipment and even worked out a deal for a new Late Model when his former track, Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, N.C., found new owners and re-opened. In addition, the track kicked off 2012 under NASCAR-sanctioning.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — CE Falk III has his eyes on the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship.
The 24-year-old from Norfolk Beach, Va., is off to a fast start in that quest. He’s already picked up five wins in the Late Model Divisions at three different tracks.
The performance also earned Falk the top spot for May in the Hunter Index, as voted on by a panel of auto racing writers and NASCAR representatives.

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Most teenagers are just beginning to learn how to drive on the street. Not Hunter Bates – he’s racing toward a NASCAR national championship.
In between classes at Middlebury (Vt.) Union High School, where he is an Honor Roll student, Bates will make his first attempt at the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national title. His season begins on Sunday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT with the 101.5 “The Fox” Spring Green.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Fifteen NASCAR Whelen All-American Series tracks open in May including two near Minneapolis, Minn. The Twin Cities-area tracks produced four different NASCAR Division I titlists in 2011. Each of those drivers is taking a different approach to their 2012 schedules.
Elko (Minn.) Speedway, a .375-mile banked paved oval opens Saturday, May 5. Raceway Park, a .250-mile paved oval in Shakopee opens Sunday, May 6. The tracks are home to hard core NASCAR Late Model racing.
