Whelen Southern Modified Tour Rescheduled Race Dates Announced

NASCAR announced today the rescheduled dates for two NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour events, which were rained out at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C.

The first event will be run Friday, Aug. 22. The second will be Saturday, Sept. 27. The latter will be the second-to-last race of the season.

The races were originally scheduled for April 14 and July 4 before being postponed by inclement weather.

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour next races Aug. 2 at Bowman Gray-Stadium in Winson-Salem, N.C. The season is scheduled to conclude Oct. 4 at Caraway.

Rain Wipes Out Southern Mods

ASHEBORO, N.C. - The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour event slated for Friday night at Caraway Speedway was postponed due to inclement weather.

The make-up date will be announced by NASCAR and Caraway officials at a later date.

The Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 at the .455-mile Asheboro short track was postponed when a heavy band of rain, thunder and lightning hit the area about halfway through qualifying and dropped almost two feet of rain in the Caraway infield. The decision to postpone the race was made about 8:30 p.m.

Practice: Seuss Leads Southern Mods

ASHEBORO, N.C. - Andy Seuss topped the speed charts in practice Friday for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour event at Caraway Speedway.

Seuss' fast time of 16.212 seconds/101.036 mph was just one-hundreths of a second faster than Brian Loftin (16.212/100.974).

Jason Myers was third of the 24 cars to practice, followed by Tim Brown and Bobby Hutchens. Point leader LW. Miller was sixth. Qualifying is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 is slated to take the green at 8 p.m.

NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Banquet Returns To Winston-Salem

The coronation for the 2008 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion will take place at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Friday, Oct. 17

The banquet marks the culimnation of NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified’s fourth season. In addition to crowning the champion, the top drivers and owners and special award winners will be honored.

Last season, L.W. Miller of Dushore, Penn. earned his first NASCAR championship.

News & Notes: Packs Make Southern Modified Tour A Family Tradition

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will return to action this Friday night in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 at the famed Caraway Speedway after taking its annual ‘Spring Break.’

As the cars and stars of the Whelen Southern Modified Tour return to action at the .455-mile short track, so too will the father and son combination of veteran Gene Pack and his 34-year-old son, Brian. When the green flag drops at 8 p.m., Brian will be behind the wheel of the No. 81 B&J Builders Chevrolet while his father will pilot the No. 31 B&J Builders Chevrolet.

Southern Mods Rained Out Again

The Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 at Caraway Speedway on Saturday night has been postponed due to inclement weather. The new event date will be announced at a later time.

The next scheduled NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race is Friday, July 4 at Caraway Speedway.

Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. opens up its 60th season of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing next Saturday night, April 26.

Follow race action all day long as the NASCAR Camping World Series West (Kyle, Texas), NASCAR Camping World Series East (Greenville, S.C.), NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour (Asheboro, N.C.) and NASCAR Mexico Series (Mexico City) take the track.

Update (5:30 p.m. ET) - L.W. Miller paced NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour practice at Caraway. But the rain that plagued Greenville in the morning is moving in on the Asheboro, N.C. track.

Greenville-Pickens Race Cancelled

Official Release

The Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 presented by Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet at Greenville-Pickens (S.C.) Speedway has been cancelled.

The race was originally scheduled for April 5, but weather caused the event to be halted. Scheduling conflicts prevent the race from being rescheduled.

It was the second straight rainout for the series, which was also postponed March 29 at Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, N.C. That event was rescheduled for Sept. 13.
