BRISTOL TRACK FACTS

-Named Bristol International Speedway from 1960-78. Was then named Bristol International Raceway from from 1978-96. Became Bristol Motor Speedway in 1996.
-Opened in 1961 and hosted its first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on July 30, 1961 won by Jack Smith.
-The .533-mile concrete oval has 600-foot straightaways with five to nine degrees of banking on the front stretch and four to eight degrees on the backstretch.
-The turns are porgressively banked from 24 to 28 degrees and the racing surface is 40 feet wide.
-Was .5-miles from 1961-69 and then became .527-miles for one year in 1969. In 1970 it became the familiar .533-miles.
-Known as "The Last Great Colosseum" due to the racing surface being completely surrounded by grandstands on all sides.
